Class action settlements with no proof of purchase: how they work
Some class action settlements let you file a claim without receipts. Instead, you confirm on the claim form, often under penalty of perjury, that you bought or used the product or service during the class period. Claims without proof often have a limit, such as a maximum number of purchases. Only claim what's true. This is general information, not legal advice.
What 'no proof required' means
You don't upload receipts, but you still have to be in the class.
Tip: Read the class definition: the product or service, where it was sold and the dates.
You sign a statement instead
Many claim forms ask you to confirm under penalty of perjury that your answers are true.
Tip: Only claim purchases you really made. False claims can be rejected and can have legal consequences.
There's often a limit
Claims without proof are often capped, for example at a set number of purchases or a set amount.
Tip: Check the notice; claims with proof can sometimes cover more.
What can count as proof
Depending on the settlement, proof can be a receipt, an order confirmation email or your account records.
Tip: Search your inbox for the store or brand name and the word order.
Bank and card statements
A statement showing the charge can sometimes stand in for a receipt.
Tip: Save statements that cover the dates in the class period.
Labels, serial numbers and account numbers
Some claims ask for a photo of the product or its label, a serial number or your account number with the company.
Tip: Keep packaging and photograph labels before you throw things away.
Your notice or claim ID
If you received a notice, its ID may show you're already on the company's records.
Tip: Enter it on the claim form when asked.
Keep your own records
Proof is much easier to find when it's in one place.
Tip: Make an email folder or label for receipts and order confirmations. How to find settlements

Can I file a class action claim without a receipt?
For some settlements, yes. The claim form asks you to confirm your purchase instead, usually with a limit on how much you can claim without proof. Others require proof.
What happens after I file a claim without proof?
The settlement administrator reviews it and can ask for more information or reject claims that don't qualify.
Is it okay to guess on a claim form?
No. Only claim what's true. Claim forms are often signed under penalty of perjury.
